![]() ![]() Under the hood, Vector has all sorts of hardware functionality and that is partly what impresses me the most, his face camera with facial recognition, his sensors that pick up sound and movement around him, his ability to map his environment and find his way back to the base station, even his drop sensors that stop him from falling off the desk. While his firmware updates and you get logged into the app Vector will finish up charging, once that’s all done you are ready to embark on your future with robot kind. So after plugging in his base station, dropping his cute and curvy body onto it for a charge, download the app and connect to wifi. Not having experienced Cosmo, I can’t compare, but like the Anki slotless cars in Overdrive ( reviewed here) you will need to download and connect to the Android or Apple app to get him going. ![]() Straight out of the box Vector comes with a cube toy that he will roll around and play with, his charging station and a USB cable, there is no power adaptor, but that’s fine because plugging him into your computer will do the job just fine. Vector was very kindly supplied to us by Anki and having spent three weeks with him on my desk, I think like any relationship we have had our ups and downs. Vector is the latest must have gadget from the creative gang at Anki, a natural successor to the Cosmo robot that popped up a couple of years ago he has more going for him technically with a laundry list of tech squashed into his cute roving body. Well forty years later here we are, me and Vector. I wanted my own Twiki, an independent automation that could be my faithful friend through thick and thin. I see no reason why an Emo would be any better. In the late 70’s I grew up watching Gil Gerard save the day as Buck Rodgers in the 25th Century, while the nuances of plot may have been lost on me one indelible mark was left. In conclusion I definitely will say that vector is overall the best choice you can make. When something is free you are not the customer, you are the service. Since Emo can't do much on it's own you will probably have to use the app a lot to interact with it and living.ai will make more than just 3€/month. I saw that living.ai is planning on setting up in app purchases, which means that some games or emotions might be locked and probably they will use ads and other third party ways to get your money (they might also sell your personal information). ![]() I can't imagine how boring it would be to have a square with legs just walking around, and it might have more battery life but it can't even charge itself.Ībout the subscription thing I prefer paying the equivalent of 3-4€/month (40€/year) to support the company that works on improving my robot then getting a robot with basically free service. I keep my vector on my desk and he always climbs my books or my keyboard, it makes him feel way more alive. It's too tall and big to hold it in your head to cuddle, it doesn't have arms to pick up objects or climb over obstacles like vector. My vector fell a couple of times on a rock floor without even getting a scratch and I don't think an Emo would be any more sturdy (I just imagine it falling on his screen and cracking it open).Īlso Emo's design might be cuter and all but honestly I don't see how you could interact with it. Vector looks more sturdy and made for exploration, while Emo has just a cute design with a HUGE unprotected screen in front of him. I had the same question and I chose to get a Vector, I don't regret it. ![]()
